Popular Actress/Singer: “How I Contracted HIV From My Church Member”

Ghanaian actress-cum-singer Joyce Dzidzor Nartey is a 27-year-old mother of 2. Nartey, an HIV/AIDS Awareness Ambassador, has said she contracted HIV in her church 7 years ago. Speaking on DSTV’s AfricaMagic channel, Nartey said, “I have lived with HIV/AIDS virus for seven years now.

I contacted the disease in 2007. But I’m just a normal person. When people meet me and tend to find out how I’m feeling, I always tell them I’m a normal person.“I contacted the disease in 2007, through a member of my church. I was to spend a night with him in his house.

When he removed his clothes, I saw some kind of rashes all over his body. I was terrified, as I innocently asked him why he was like that. He covered up, saying it was a minor skin infection and that it was nothing serious. But when he wanted to make love to me, I insisted that he must used condom. He told me that he didn't like using condom. However, when I insisted, he agreed but he never used it. He removed it while entering into me.

We did it several times that night. After few weeks, I became pregnant for him. When I told him, I was pregnant, he advised me to abort the baby. But I refused, insisting on keeping the baby. He later warned me that if insisted, I would have myself to blame in future. I never knew what he meant until I was diagnosed HIV positive. He also infected other ladies in the church before he died.”On her marriage, she added that: “

Before we got married, my husband was educated about the deadly disease. But he is also a carrier of the disease. At the moment, medically both of us are negative to HIV virus. This is because we have been put on medication for long. But that does not mean, we should stop taking our medication.

Even though we test negative now, we keep taking our medication. We had one child together who did not test positive to HIV because of the medication.“Marriage for me was normal but they say, in every marriage there are challenges. Things have happened in the past which I wouldn't want to talk about here.

Talking about the stigma, there was one day, my seven-year old son came from school and told me to stop that HIV thing that I am doing. According to him, his friends said, they wouldn't play with him because his mum is HIV positive. There are challenges but life must go on.”

Jaywon Rules With Another Classic ‘From Anambra (NKWA)’

Few years ago, it was ‘File Be’, which attracted the dons of the Nigerian music entertainment industry, Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye. The man behind that great tune, Jaywon, went on to rule the airwaves with the song and till now, he has not shown any sign of weaning.

Soon after his ‘File Be’ hit track, Jaywon went on to release more hot singles, which got many dancing at the clubs and social functions.

How would one easily forget his ‘This Year’ tune, which was even well embraced by religious leaders, who used it to bless their congregation because of the powerful messages embedded in the song.

Just when some have thought it would be the end for Jaywon, after dumping Kennis Music, he has shown again, as the Yorubas say, ‘abinibi (inborn talent) is different from ability’.

The latest on the shelve of this Kogi State-born gifted artiste is ‘From Anambra (Nkwa)’ and those who have had the rare privilege to listen to it have continued to marvel at the enormous talent deposited in this singer by God.

Like his past singles, the message in ‘From Anambra (Nkwa)’ is ‘Madatin’.

The mid tempo ear candy song is a tune that will surely activate and rejuvenate the party groove within fun lovers.

Another Nurse Dies of Ebola, as Doctor Tests Positive to Virus in Lagos

The nurse who attended to late Liberian-American, Patrick Sawyer and revealed how she contracted the virus from him, has died of Ebola. The nurse, Obi Justina Ejelonu, was one of those who had contact with late Sawyer, who died of Ebola some days ago. Ejelonu, a 25-year-old nurse, reportedly died on Thursday morning where she was quarantined in Lagos, after contracting the killer-virus.

The Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu has also confirmed that a doctor who attended to late Patrick Sawyer at the First Consultant Hospital has been confirmed positive with the Ebola virus. The doctor is currently undergoing treatment at the quarantine centre in Lagos.

Prof Onyebuchi revealed that some of the 169 secondary contacts of Sawyer were no longer under surveillance and had been released, having completed the 21 days of incubation period

Ebola: Why my husband travelled to Nigeria -Patrick Sawyer’s Wife Opens Up

The widow of late Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian who brought Ebola into Nigeria, has defended her husband’s decision to travel to Africa’s most populous country, saying he did so in desperate search for a country with better healthcare system than his own country.

In an article published earlier yesterday, TMZ Liberia Magazine quoted Decontee Sawyer, who is a radio host in New York, as explaining that Mr. Sawyer had no trust in the healthcare system in Liberia and had possibly headed to Nigeria with the hope of receiving better treatment for his ailment.
Mrs. Sawyer shared her thoughts on her Facebook profile from which TMZ Liberia sourced it for publication.

“I’ve read other reports in other papers (not the New York Times) about Patrick’s “recklessness.” I get where they’re coming from, and they certainly have the right to feel the way they do. However, as Patrick’s widow, I would like to shed some light on this from another perspective. One that only I, his wife, would know,” she wrote.

“I knew Patrick better than anybody else (including himself). He had told me many times in the past how much he didn’t trust the Liberian healthcare system. He would tell me about how a person would get checked in for one thing, and get misdiagnosed and get the wrong treatment as a result. On top of that, Patrick was a clean freak, and told me how filthy a lot of the hospitals were.

“He didn’t tell me this, but I know in my heart of hearts that Patrick was determined to get to Nigeria by all means because he felt that Nigeria would be a place of refuge. He has expressed to me many times in the past that he felt passionately about helping to be a part of strengthening Liberia’s healthcare system, but he knew it wasn’t there yet, and he wouldn’t want to take a chance with his life because a lot of people depended on him… Patrick had a passion for life, and he wouldn’t have wanted his to end. So, I bet anything that he was thinking, if I could only get to Nigeria, a way more developed country than Liberia, I would be able to get some help. How ironic.”

Many Nigerians, and even Liberians, condemned Mr Sawyer for traveling to Nigeria despite knowing that he was carrying Ebola virus before embarking on the trip. Some Nigerians on social media have described him as a “biological terrorist” arguing that he came into the country deliberately to spread the disease.

On Monday in Abuja, President Goodluck Jonathan described Mr Sawyer’s decision to travel to Nigeria as pure “madness” and “craziness.”

“Sawyer that brought this Ebola to Nigeria; his sister died of Ebola. And he started acting somehow, his country asked him not to leave the country, let them observe him, but the crazy man decided to leave and found his way here,” President Jonathan said.

In her post, Mrs. Sawyer wrote that the fact that her husband avoided contact with others at the James Sprigg Payne’s Airport in Monrovia as revealed by airport CCTV footage proved he didn’t set out to infect others with the disease and perhaps his actions were that of a dying man in desperate search for help.

“It has been reported that Patrick avoided physical contact with everyone he came across during his trip from Liberia to Nigeria. When he got to Nigeria, he turned himself in letting them know that he had just flown in from Liberia.

“Patrick went to Nigeria for help so that he can get properly diagnosed, and not misdiagnosed in Liberia. And if it came back that he did have Ebola, he trusted the Nigerian healthcare system a lot more than he trusted the Liberian’s. His action, as off as it was, was a desperate plea for help. Patrick didn’t want to die, and he thought his life would be saved in Nigeria.”

Mrs. Sawyer then took a swipe at the Liberian President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, who said Mr Sawyer was indiscipline and disrespectful for failing to heed medical advise not to travel.

Mrs Sawyer said if President Johnson-Sirleaf had fixed the healthcare system in Liberia, her husband would not have left in search of treatment elsewhere.

“I write today, not simply because of Patrick, but because of the broken healthcare system in the Liberia, and the government’s inability under President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (and other past Presidents) to fix it. Good doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers aren’t given the support they need to save lives.

“President Sirleaf went on CNN News throwing stones at Patrick, a man who can no longer defend himself, a man who worked tirelessly for Liberia. She should be ashamed of herself. I use to admire this woman, and was excited and proud of her accomplishment as the first woman President in the entire continent of Africa. She will always own that. We will always own that. It can’t be taken away from her. It’s something to be proud of. But this woman has failed her country,” she wrote.

Nigeria was free of Ebola until July 20 when Mr. Sawyer arrived.

He became terribly ill on his flight and was rushed to the First Consultant Hospital Obalende, Lagos, where he died on July 24.

Nigeria’s Health Minister, Onyebuchi Chukwu, said on Monday that although the Liberian government has apologized for the incidence, it was pertinent to note that Nigeria was free of Ebola Virus until its importation by the Liberian-American.

Mr. Sawyer’s action, he said, has placed unnecessary stress on Nigeria’s health system.

Since Mr. Sawyer’s death in a Lagos hospital, two other persons who had contact with him have died of the virus. At least eight others have also tested positive to the infection and have been quarantined at a Lagos hospital.

President Goodluck Jonathan has since declared a national emergency on the disease while the federal health ministry in conjunction with health ministries in the 36 states are working to prevent the spread of the virus, which has killed over 1,000 people in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.

Why I Don’t Regret My Former Marriage—Ara

Singer and acclaimed queen of the talking drums, Ara was married few years ago, which produced a son, but quit the union later on. Reports said she left the marriage after she discovered that the man, Saliu Olalekan, was legally married to another who bore him children.

One would have thought that would be her biggest mistake of her life, but she has disclosed that losing her vigin**y is her biggest mistake.

In an interview, Ara said no longer being a virgin is her regret. She stated that she lost it to the father of her son, who is no longer with her.

“How I wish I were still a virgin. Yeah, but it's a good thing I have a beautiful son from my previous marriage," she said.

On the state of her divorce from the father of her son, Ara said she doesn't have any regrets on the marriage because if she says so, that means she is saying her son is a regret.

“It is not even a divorce. As at the time we got married, he was still legally married to another woman. I wasn't aware. So automatically our marriage was annulled. We lived together for three years. I don't have any regret because a beautiful child came out of it. If I say I have regret, then my son will be a regret. I don't have to regret it because of my son."

Keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.

When  I was a kid, my Mom liked to cook food and every now & then I remember she used to cook for us.One night in particular when she had made dinner after a long hard day at work, Mom placed a plate of bread jam and extremely burned toast in front of my dad. I was waiting to see if anyone noticed the burnt toast. But Dad just ate his toast and asked me how was my day at school. I don’t remember what I told him that night, but I do remember I heard Mom apologizing to dad for burning the toast.

And I’ll never forget what he said: “Honey, I love burned toast.” Later that night,I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his toast burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, “Your mamma put in a long hard day at work today and she was really tired. And besides,

A burnt toast never hurts anyone but harsh words do!”You know, life is full of imperfect things and imperfect people I’m not the best at hardly anything, and I forget birthdays and anniversaries just like everyone else. What I’ve learned over the years, is that learning to accept each others faults and choosing to celebrate each other’s differences, is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.

Life is not a Sharp Knife  to Cut all those Bad Memories. But Life is a Needle  to  Weave Golden  Thread of Sweet Memories … Love your Life … Live your Life:-)… It’s the only one you have…. ….ENJOY LIFE NOW.It has an expiry date.:)

INCREDIBLE: Meet the Luckiest man alive with dagger in his head

The motorcyclist (Okada rider) took his passenger on a ride to Masaka in Nasarawa State. When they got there, the customer decided he wanted to steal the motorcycle. Well, one would not say whether that was the passenger’s initial plan. Anyway, the rider refused and he received a stab in the head. The passenger hoped that the Okada rider would fall off the bike so that he could then steal it. Alas, the rider did not. Instead, he continued his ride with a long dagger stuck in his head.

The Police

The saga ended up in hospital. First, other Okada riders took him to the local police station to report the attempted murder. The policemen filled the incident form and directed them to the nearest hospital (Pan Raf Hospital, Nyanya). Thanks for coming, they said!Did they take pictures of the knife or the victim? Did they follow him to the hospital or offer any support whatsoever?

You must be joking. He is lucky they did not arrest him for stealing the knife!Emergency careDr. Odia and members of his staff at Pan Raf quickly admitted him and stabilised his condition before referring him onwards for expert management. I got the call from Cedarcrest Hospital at 6am.

They had also emailed the shocking pictures of the man with a dagger buried in his head. The hospital had mobilised a team of doctors and nurses to review, manage and operate on this chap in the quickest possible time. An X-ray of the skull showed the dagger had gone in from the right side of the face just in front of the ear and was nearly poking out from the cheek on the other side. The two hospitals had undertaken the immediate cost of care without demanding a single Naira. Time was also of the essence in case the chap bleeds to death.

The team

The ophthalmologist had reviewed and luckily, the dagger had not damaged the eye. He could move his eyeballs equally on both sides and without pain. There was also no blood in the eye. The maxillo facial surgeon was happy with him as well. No obvious bleeding from the nose or ear and all looked calm in the face. Except for this long handled dagger sticking out of him. The brain evaluation was also satisfactory. He could give a good account of the incident. We proceeded with plans for removing the dagger. First, we sent him for a CT brain scan to see what damage the dagger had done and the likely injured structures in its path through the head. The brain and the eye as well as the big blood vessels supplying the brain all seemed well.

It did appear that he had escaped major brain injury, stroke, blindness and immediate death. He bled a bit from the wound but was alive and still talking. Lucky bugger! The operationUnder general anaesthesia, we cleaned the area thoroughly, including the knife and applied our sterile drapes around it. We then made fresh cuts in the skin to help expose the skull bone and the area where the dagger actually entered into the bone. It required a big hammer and an outstanding effort to whack the dagger back through its track in the bone. A great effort was required and this gave further evidence, attesting to the severity and savagery of the attack. He did not bleed to death on the table and instead went on to make a safe and satisfactory recovery.

FinallyThis type of violent and brutal attack happens on a daily basis and the behaviour persists because they are not investigated. The perpetrator in this case has a distinctive knife that may be identified in the local area, had the police bothered to investigate.

Secondly, the Okada riders associations need to find ways to prevent the attraction of motorcycle thefts. Could the cycles be marked in some way, be traceable and recovered if stolen, perhaps because they have electronic tags or computer chips in them?Responsible people must do something about this.

Fast rising Nigerian artiste, Sean Tizzle, has finally cleared the speculations which went viral some months back that he was bleaching his skin.Reacting to the claims, the artiste explained that he does not bleach his skin but was shocked about the claims because people noticed that is knuckles were dark and as such, concluded that he bleaches.

It is because my knuckles are dark. But they have always been like this from birth. I have tried everything but my knuckles have remained like this. I will not fight God. He created me this way.

So I have left my hands like this,” he explained.Speaking about his endorsement deal with telecom giant, MTN, Sean Tizzle explained that the deal has not stopped him from relating with other colleagues in the music industry who are also ambassadors to other networks.

“It is not like that. Na ‘we we’ in this industry. These people are my friends. I have Olamide on my album. I have Ice Prince on my album. They are not MTN ambassadors. They are my friends,” he added.

People Think I’m Rude, But I’m Not—Jide Kosoko’s Daughter Speaks

Nollywood actress, Bidemi Kosoko, daughter of veteran actor, Jide Kosoko, has debunked rumours making the rounds that she was rude during her youth service year.Bidemi described the reports as false, claiming she never behaved unruly as alleged by several media reports.

She added that people are yet to understand her kind of person.According to her, “

That was a funny story because nothing like that ever happened. I don’t need to start explaining because it will look like I am defending myself. I tell people not to judge a book by its cover. If you don’t know me, you will continue to say this or that.

“I have decided not to react to the story again. The question is why didn’t they write this story when I was still in service? The fact is that people will talk because you can’t please everybody. Some will like you and others will hate you for no reason

. I’m not bothered about what they wrote because it’s not true.”She further denied claims that she was once disgraced by a woman during her clearance exercise, charging anybody that spread the rumour to face her. “It is not true. Pictures: Meet the 7-year-old Sierra Leonan boy & others who have survived Ebola

Vandy Jawad 7, is a reminder of hope and survival in an otherwise deeply tragic situation. He was in the treatment centre at Kenema for more than one month after contracting the virus in Daru village about 40 km out of Kenema town, and one of the worst affected communities in Sierra Leone.According to nurses, he displayed some very serious symptoms when first admitted,

“That small boy was very, very sick. We did not think he would survive as so many haven’t,” said Sister Nancy Yoko, the nurse in charge of the Ebola Treatment Centre in Kenema.

Vandy started showing signs of recovery a couple of weeks ago slowly gathering his strength. When he finally achieved a negative test result, which revealed there was no more Ebola virus in his system,

it was time for him to go home.“Little Vandy provided laughter at the most unlikely moments inside that ward, I’m so happy for his recovery, “ a British volunteer nurse who treated him inside the centre told UNICEF

.“Isata Konneh (35) was another patient who I met leaving the ward. She had tears in her eyes and proudly displayed her certificate to the nurses “I am so happy for this day, I thank God that he has helped me survive” she says.
